World's Biggest Problems - Week 3

Here is my list of what I think is the world's biggest problems:

  • Climate change is one of the biggest problems that the world faces today with some believing in global warming and others who don’t. There has been scientific proof that the climate has significantly changed in the last century.  Countries around the world should band together and setup a research firm to study this problem and as a whole come up with a comprehensive plan.
  • Affordable health care has been a source of constant topic especially in these past few years; as time goes on the cost of health care increases.  One of the reasons is that drug companies are charging a lot for consumers to take their drugs and too many incentives for doctors and pharmacists to prescribe a certain kind of medication. I believe doctors and pharmacists should openly disclose what sort of kickback or incentive they get for recommending that product and also offer a cheaper alternative as well. There is also an increase in malpractice lawsuits and the amounts the plaintiffs and lawyers get for winning the case is really sometimes in the millions of dollars. Some kind of limit on awards should be looked into for these kinds of cases.
  • Economy regardless of what country you are from is always talked about. Economic instability is something that all countries fear. A way to control economic downfall is to have a better system for check and balances especially when it comes to trade of goods and services, and the stock market. I don’t think enough is being done to ensure that big companies and corporations are more transparent in their dealings and that their needs to be stricter laws regarding this.
  • War have torn so many countries a part. A lot of these war have to do with religion or economic injustice or government control over their people being too strict. This is not something that can be easily solved and have to be taken care of on a case by case basis. What we can do is provide support more support through the UN.
  • Shortage of natural resources like water has impacted a lot of countries. One way we can slow down this process is by educating people on conservation and look into new technology for recycling water and wastewater.
  • A good education should be available to everyone but it isn’t. More can be done to provide quality education to anyone that wishes through professionals volunteering their time, donations, and developing programs that can be easily implemented in any area.
  • Crime in certain parts of the world keeps increasing and there are many factors that affect this. By having a stable economic growth, an increase in available programs for education you will see a decrease in crime.
  • Population growth is a problem because people are living longer and natural resources are depleting. While not much can be done on longevity of life something can be done regarding conservation of natural resources. We could look into recycling, conservation.
  • Illegal drugs like with anything else are available because there is a demand for them. In order to decrease these demands we should work with law enforcement and keep educating on the harms these drugs causes.
  • Pollution of water, food and air are caused by many different things. We can enforce laws and increase penalties on polluters. Expand the whistle blower program, and the recycling system

  2. Joselyn, Its amazing how when I look through all many of the other students list's, including yours and mine, we mostly all agree that there are major problems in the world such as lack of clean water, poverty and war. You would think that if students identify this then our world leaders could do the same. Check out my blog http://keithjrsideas.blogspot.com/2016/01/worlds-biggest-problems.html
